Providence School counselors are here to help you. Whether it is deciding which college to attend after you graduate, finding a career that matches your talents, or talking to someone about your questions and concerns, our counselors will guide you in mapping out your future.

 

 

Ashley Brooks

Middle School Advisor

After graduating from Louisiana State University in 1995 with a Masters in Education and double major in journalism and English, Mrs. Brooks taught English and journalism at Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana and at Fletcher Middle School in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.  Upon completing her fifth year of teaching, God called her into full-time ministry alongside her husband at Celebration Church where she served as Middle School Pastor for two years.  In 2004, Mrs. Brooks and her husband moved to Alpharetta, Georgia where they planted Highlands Church and served as Senior Pastors for over two years.  Mrs. Brooks joined the Providence faculty in 2008 where she is the 6th and 7th Grade Advisor as well as a teacher in the Bible Department. Mrs. Brooks and her husband, Chris, have two children, C.J. and Maggie, who both attend Providence, and the couple both serve as pastors at Celebration Church.

 

Kelly Shirah

College Counselor

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross in 1997, Mrs. Shirah went on to earn her master's degree in Educational Psychology and School Counseling from the University of Minnesota.  Prior to joining Providence’s faculty, Mrs. Shirah served as an Americorps volunteer with the Franciscan Friars working in youth ministry, she was a social studies teacher at Mother Cabrini High School in New York, and she worked in the education department at the Museum of Science and History.  Most recently, Mrs. Shirah served as a school counselor at Paxon School for Advanced Studies for the past three years.  She is a member of the American School Counselors Association, and the Florida School Counseling Association.

 

Tanya Riggio

Freshmen and Sophomore Counselor

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Florida State University in 2002, Mrs. Riggio went on to earn her master’s degree in School Counseling at the University of North Florida. While pursuing her master’s degree, she served as an intern in the Providence Guidance Department.  Prior to joining Providence’s faculty, she worked as a scholarship counselor to early education teachers and also worked with elementary and middle school students in the Salvation Army after school program.  Mrs. Riggio is a member in good standing of several professional organizations including the American School Counselors Association, the Florida Counseling Association, and the First Coast Counseling Association.

 

Katie Rose

Junior Counselor

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia in 1997, Mrs. Rose began her teaching career at Providence School. Throughout her tenure at Providence, Mrs. Rose has earned her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Florida. For this degree, she worked at Mental Health Resource Center in the Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit as well as at Child Guidance Center while continuing to teach at Providence School. After completing her master’s in 2001, Mrs. Rose became certified in Guidance and Counseling K-12 and moved into the Guidance Department at Providence. Through this department, Mrs. Rose has been privileged to work with every grade level in high school and currently is the Sophomore and Junior counselor. Mrs. Rose is a member in good standing of several professional organizations including the American School Counselor Association, the Florida Counseling Association, and the American Counseling Association. Katie and her husband, Robert, have one son who attends Providence School and one daughter who will join the Providence family in 2009.

 

Leah Wilkes

Administrative Assistant

Mrs. Wilkes has been an integral part of Providence School since its inception and has worked in many capacities over the years, including registration and reenrollment and the front office staff. She has been Providence's Guidance Assistant since 2001. She and her husband Glenn attend New Life Christian Fellowship and have two children: Jenna and Brandon, both of which graduated from Providence School.
