Middle School

High School GirlsProvidence Middle School has been specifically created to meet the unique spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical needs of students in grades 6 through 8. It is in these grades that students experience a greater degree of growth and development than at any other time in their lives. Therefore, the services we provide them are tailored to their specific needs. Our programs cultivate students strengths, and identify weaknesses, filling in any existing gaps in their skills. This in turn provides a bridge to more challenging content. Another strong aspect of our middle school program is our commitment to practical application to real world experience in each subject area. We incorporate cooperative learning strategies into all subject areas and integrate language arts throughout the school day. We also work towards well-rounded, strong student relationships with their peers, family, and community.

In order to accomplish this task, we strive for an understanding of the needs and nature of middle school students and make a strong commitment to meeting those needs. These young people neither are young children or young adults. Just as a caterpillar transitions into a butterfly, so, too, these young people experience a type of “metamorphosis” as well.

High School GuysProvidence School believes that middle school aged students learn best when:

  • learning communities remain small and supportive.
  • the curriculum is both meaningful and rigorous.
  • the family and the community are significant stakeholders in students’ education.
  • students are academically, emotionally, socially, physically, and spiritually supported by the school.

The focus of our academic program is college preparatory. Students are provided a strong academic program in math, science, English, and social studies as well as the arts. In addition, our students are offered a wide variety of “exploratory” course options which also includes attendance in a Study Skills quarter course. Our goal is to not only focus on the information of subject material, but on the meaning behind those facts, extending their knowledge beyond just notes in a classroom. As a result Providence Middle School students learn to think critically, be intellectually engaged, and relate what they already know to new situations. Additionally, these effective learning strategies drive students to take the initiative and act on their beliefs, making a difference in their lives and the lives of others.

Providence Middle School is pleased to provide guidance services as well as an “Advisor-Advisee” program. These services provide direction to our young people in academic and other areas of need. A new program to our school this year, the Advisor-Advisee program has already received glowing reports from our school family!

We believe you will find Providence Middle School is an inviting, nurturing, and safe place to pursue academic excellence! Our student body as a whole is characterized by a high level of enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
