In only 12 years, Providence has become one of the most respected and acclaimed private schools in North Florida. For example, last year, our standardized test scores ranked among the top 10% of all private schools in the nation. 100% of our 2009 graduates were accepted by colleges and universities all across the country and based on their years at Providence, have considered themselves more prepared for the demands of their post-secondary education.
In addition, our student-athletes have coveted the same level of success. With several state championships and “Final Four” appearances as well as national recognition, both our men’s and women’s sports have achieved tremendous success.
With the continued growth and success of these programs comes a tremendous need for upgraded and additional facilities. Whether you are participating on a team or here to support our athletes, these facilities will continue to be utilized by EVERY STUDENT, including Lower School, at Providence. In response, this past fall we launched one of the most important sports initiatives in school history!
With the continued success of our programs, more and more students are rising to the challenge and participating on these respective teams. Today’s student-athlete has to train year round to compete at these high levels. Our goal is to provide them with the highest quality facilities and support.
Currently, we have one indoor arena that facilitates six basketball teams, three volleyball teams, wrestling and other events. You will commonly find our players at the school at 6 AM or as late as 9 PM due to limited space. Our wrestling team has to travel for every match and holds practices in the hallways. Due to the small size of our gym and limited seating capacity, the majority of our high profile boys’ basketball games are played at other larger facilities which not only deprives our community of being a part of their success but also impacts us financially when we host these events.
In an effort to eliminate these challenges while enhancing the success of our student-athletes, we have developed plans for a new Sports Complex. This state-of-the-art 33,000 square foot facility would provide three practice courts for basketball and a total of six courts for volleyball, a 1,600 seat game arena, a 3300 sq. foot weight room, expanded men’s and women’s locker rooms, and more.
As Providence is self-funded, we will depend solely on private gifts to fund this new facility. The project will cost an estimated $1.5 million and could be ready for occupancy by the fall of 2010! In order for this plan to become a reality for our student-athletes and our school community, we are asking for your help.
In the coming weeks we will be conducting a series of “dinner presentations” to our sports families on Tuesday and Thursday evenings based on their students’ game and practice schedules. We encourage lower and upper school families who do not have students participating in a team sport to join any of these meetings. To get a list of the scheduled dinners, please contact Laura Gabel at Providence or by email at advancement@prov.org.
To date we have received gifts from several families totaling more than $200,000 which have allowed us to fund the design work as well as architectural and engineering drawings needed to obtain the necessary permits to break ground and pour the foundation the first of the year. However, that is only the beginning.
For this plan to become a reality we will need every Providence family to participate at whatever level fits their budget. For this reason we have created many different levels of participation. Whether you are contributing through your business or as an individual family, your participation is essential to our success. The following levels of contribution are currently available.

The incredible success of our students and our athletes at Providence has helped mold the character and fortitude of hundreds of young men and women and has given them the opportunity to compete at the highest high school levels. These student athletes have in turn brought national recognition to our school.
With your leadership support, this facility will benefit all current and future students of Providence. It will also allow our outreach programs to support our community through summer camps and city league organizations. In a few days you will be receiving a brochure which will give more specific details on this project. On behalf of the entire staff and student body of Providence, we sincerely appreciate your consideration of this proposal.
