Algebra I Honors Description

The purpose of this course is to provide a rigorous and in-depth study of algebra, emphasizing deductive reasoning skills, as a foundation for more advanced mathematics courses and to develop the skills needed to solve real world and mathematical problems.

The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Credit: 1 (Year)
8th and 9th grade levels
Prerequisites: Pre-Algebra/Advanced 7th Grade Math with "C" or higher

 

Geometry Honors Description

The purpose of this course is to provide a rigorous, in-depth study of geometric relationships and deductive strategies, which can be used to solve a variety of real world and mathematical problems. The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Credit: 1 (Year)
9th and 10th grade
Prerequisites: Algebra I with "C" or higher

 

Liberal Arts Math Description

The purpose of this course is to strengthen mathematical skills necessary for further study of advanced mathematics.

The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:

Credit: 1 (Year)
Open to grades 9-12
Prerequisites: For students with a "C" or less in Algebra I and/or Geometry

 

Algebra II Honors Description

The purpose of this course is to continue the rigorous and in-depth study of algebra and to provide the foundation for applying algebraic skills to other mathematical and scientific fields.

The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Credit: 1 (Year)
10th and 11th grade
Prerequisites: Geometry with a "C" or higher

 

Pre-Calculus with Trigonometry Description

The purpose of this course is to emphasize the study of functions and other skills necessary for the study of calculus.

The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Credit: 1 (Year)
11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites: Algebra II with a "C" or higher Students must have a TI-86 or TI-89 for daily use in this course.

 

Advanced Placement Calculus AB Description

The purpose of this course is to study algebraic and transcendental functions and the general theory and techniques of calculus.

The Advanced Placement Program of the College Board specifies the content, which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Credit: 1 (year)
11th and 12th Grade
Prerequisites: Pre-Calculus with a "C" or higher

Per the Providence Pupil Progression Plan the student must take the advanced placement exam as part of the requirements in order to pass any and all AP classes.


Advanced Placement Calculus BC Description

The purpose of this course is to study the concepts of Calculus AB and the Advanced Placement Program of the College Board specifies the content which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Credit: 1 (year)
11th and 12th Grade
Prerequisites: Calculus AB with a "C" or higher

Per the Providence Pupil Progression Plan the student must take the advanced placement exam as part of the requirements in order to pass any and all AP classes.
