2D Art I Description
The purpose of this course is to give students an understanding of drawing.
The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- perception of and response to qualities of art found in drawings of artists, past and present
- study of works of art made by both students and professionals
- the production of drawings with specific intent and expressive quality
- study of the history of drawings for the purpose of identifying ways in which reality is represented on a flat surface in different times and cultures development and justification of judgments about the aesthetic merit and qualities of drawings

2D Art II Description
The purpose of this course is to give students an understanding of drawing skills. The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- intensified work in gesture and contour drawing
- the study of mass through linear extension and forms created by continual surface lines and parallel line concept
- perception of and response to the ways in which sensory elements combine to give a work of art an expressive quality
- discussion of works of art
- the production of drawings based on interpretation of ideas, feelings, and experiences
- the history of art, stressing styles of art
- criteria for making and justifying judgments about aesthetic merit and qualities of drawings
- more sophisticated spatial concepts

Drawing/Painting II Description
The purpose of this course is to provide experience and skill development in design, composition, techniques, and media. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- in-depth study of intellectual and creative approaches to techniques
- investigation of media
- the significance of drawing and painting in art
- the contributions of outstanding artists, present and past
- perception of and response to the formal qualities and expressive content in selected drawings and paintings
- valuing and understanding the functions of drawing and painting in society
- production of drawings and paintings with selected composition, subject matter, expressive quality, or expressive content
- the history of drawings and paintings and their relationship to other processes and periods
- criteria for making judgments about aesthetic merit and qualities of selected drawings and paintings
- generation of creative ideas, problem solving, and planning for personal expression
- exploration of art career options

Ceramics/Pottery I Description
The purpose of this course is to give students a basic understanding of ceramic processes. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- the composition and treatment of clay products
- qualities of art of clay products in different forms and styles
- recognition of properties, limitations, and possibilities of clay construction through hand-building techniques
- use of clay bodies, glazes, tools, and techniques in creating clay products
- investigation of decorating techniques
- development of skills with ceramic tools
- examination of qualities of finished products made by professionals
- study of vocabulary relating to ceramics and pottery
- defense of aesthetic judgments about works of art produced in clay

Ceramics/Pottery II Description
The purpose of this course is to give students an understanding of ceramic processes. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- investigation of the ceramic process
- the relationship between art elements and composition principles
- the function of ceramics/pottery in our society the history of ceramics/pottery and its relationship to other processes and periods
- criteria for making judgments about the aesthetic merits of ceramic art
- the practice of successful forming techniques

Portfolio Drawing/Painting III Description
The purpose of this course is to give students an understanding of design and composition in drawing and painting. The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- composition in drawing, painting, and design, including its symbolic use in aesthetic expression
- the function of line and mass in visual terms
- perception of and response to the formal qualities and expressive content in a particular work of art
- expression of in-depth conceptions about art and artists
- production of works that show an in-depth understanding of design and composition
- the history of art as it relates to understanding of design and composition
- development and justification of judgments of the aesthetic merit and qualities of selected drawings and paintings
- Critical approaches to painting in terms of color use, expressiveness, symbolism, emotional and aesthetic design, and spatial treatments.

Advanced Placement Studio Art Description
The purpose of this course is to give advanced students the opportunity to develop quality, concentration, discipline, and breadth in drawing. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- experiences in the development of skills in the perceptual and conceptual aspects of drawing
- techniques of preparation, presentation, and evaluation of portfolio content
This course is designed for students interested in majoring in Art and provides the opportunity to develop a portfolio. Emphasis in on the production of original and imaginative works of art which reflect an understanding of the elements of design and varied forms of expression. The content is specified by the College Board AP program.

Per the Providence Pupil Progression Plan the student must take the advanced placement exam as part of the requirements in order to pass any and all AP classes.
Band I-IV Description
The purpose of this course is to develop musicianship skills in band and instrumental ensembles. The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- fundamental skills in characteristic tone production
- band performance techniques
- musical literacy
- music appreciation

Chorus I-IV Description
The purpose of this course is to provide experiences in basic vocal production techniques and part-singing. The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- basic and fundamental skills in vocal tone production
- choral performance techniques
- musical literacy
- music appreciation

Dance Techniques I Description
The purpose of this course is to acquire knowledge and skill in two or more styles of dance. Acquisition of technique should be stressed. The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- in-depth knowledge and application of techniques of two or more dance styles (ballet, jazz, modern, theater, or tap)
- knowledge of dance terminology
- knowledge of basic choreography of movement sequences
- acquisition of technique

Dance Techniques II Description
The purpose of this course is to extend the acquisition of knowledge and the development of techniques of dance. Acquisition of technique and choreography skills should be stressed.
The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- further development of knowledge and application of techniques in two or more dance styles (ballet, jazz, modern, theater, or tap)
- knowledge of dance terminology
- knowledge of choreography

Drama I-IV Description
The purpose of this course is to provide in-depth experiences in the study and practice of theatre arts and literature. The content includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- overview of the history of the theatre and literature of the theatre
- introduction to the fundamentals of theatre production including scenery construction, costuming, lighting, and make-up
- the fundamentals of acting
