Computer Applications I Description
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the care and uses of microcomputers and to give them an opportunity for as much hands-on experience as possible.
The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- simple programming
- the use of commercially available software
- demonstration and use of software programs in data management
- demonstration and use of word processing
- demonstration and use of spreadsheet analysis
- demonstration and use of graphics applications
- demonstration and use of authoring languages
- the use of telecommunications packages

Computer Applications II Description
The purpose of this course is to provide students with intensive hands-on experiences with some commonly used software packages. Advanced applications of commercially available software will be emphasized.
The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- word-processing
- spreadsheets
- database management
- integrated software packages
- problem solving with the aid of these computer applications
Credit: 1/2 (Semester)

Advanced Computers/Web Page Design Description
This course works on the Providence Website and is intended to provide students with the necessary skills and guidelines for Web Page construction and includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Providing equivalent alternatives to auditory and visual content.
- Utilizing color, type and visual images.
- Utilizing markup and style sheets properly.
- Clarifying natural language usage
- Creating tables that transform gracefully.
- Ensuring that pages that feature new technologies transform gracefully.
- Ensuring user control of time-sensitive content changes.
- Ensuring direct accessibility of embedded user interfaces.
- Designing for device-independence.
- Using interim solutions.
- Using W3C technologies and guidelines.
- Providing context and orientation information.
- Providing clear navigation mechanisms.
- Ensuring that documents are clear and simple.
NOTE: This class requires some afternoon, evening, and weekend commitment, most of which is likely to occur around deadlines.

Journalism I-IV Description
The purpose of this course is to provide instruction in basic aspects of journalism and workshop experiences in journalistic production.
The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- recognition of and writing news for journalistic media development of editorials, sports articles, and feature stories
- the history and traditions of journalism
- workshop experiences in photography, layouts, advertising, printing, and other practical aspects of journalistic enterprise
Credit: 1 (Year)

Mass Media I-IV Description
The purpose of this course is to enable students to gain an understanding of and critical insight into a variety of mass media.
The content should include, but not be limited to, the following:
- examination of the mass media as vehicles of information, entertainment, and propaganda print and electronic media
- theory and practical applications of commercial and artistic programs
- oral and written analysis
- practice in preparing a variety of types of media
- selling of ads
- production of school yearbook
NOTE: This class requires some afternoon, evening, and weekend commitment, most of which is likely to occur around deadlines.
