Providence School Athletics enters a new era under the direction of Ron Pompeo Director of Athletics. Pompeo took office in July 2006 and set a vision for Providence School Athletics that focuses on the continued excellence of Providence School student –athletes and teams and is committed to enhancing the student-athlete experience while at Providence by providing opportunity to grow in the classroom, in competion and in the community. This vision will build on the rich tradition of Providence School athletics, a tradition that includes many great athletes and coaches.
Ron Pompeo who completed his 20th year at St Johns has guided the Spartans to unparalleled success for the past two decades. Under the leadership of Mr. Pompeo, St Johns has been recognized state wide by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and Florida Coaches Athletic Association (FCAA) as one of the top athletic programs in the state of Florida.
Mr. Pompeo, a native of Massachusetts, attended Boston University where he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Education Degree. While enjoying playing Varsity soccer. Enjoying an outstanding college career. He currently lives in the Beaches area with his wife Karen and son Regan, while Jackie attends Florida State University, Katie attending University of Florida and David a recent graduate of Auburn University.
GIGI BISTROW/ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Coach Bistrow has been involved with athletics at Providence since the onset of the school. She started the girls’ basketball program and in the fourth year of the school stepped in to help in the Athletic Director’s office. Coach Bistrow has been working in this department now for 7 years. She assists in the handling of communication and daily on goings of the all the sports. Along with working in the athletic department she has remained the Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach. Coach Bistrow is married to her husband, Jimmy and has 4 children: Ana Marie, 12, Jo, 10, Belle, 9 and Guy, 4.
