College is a major investment, not only in time and effort, but also financially. To afford college, many students receive scholarships and financial aid from both public and private organizations. Here are some resources that will help you find available scholarships and financial aid.

Featured Scholarships

Georgia Southern University's Honors Program Scholarships: $1500 per year for four years; students who meet the entrance requirements for the University Honors Program will be eligible to compete. www.academics.georgiasouthern.edu

Georgia Southern University's 1906 Scholars Scholarships: full tuition award; for students in the University Honors Program at Georgia Southern.www.academics.georgiasouthern.edu

American Chemical Society Scholars Program: awards from $2500-$5000 per year; for students pursuing a degree in any of the chemical sciences; for minority students; see Guidance Office or www.acs.org/scholars for application information.

Jacksonville Bulldog Alumni Scholarships, Inc.'s Vince Dooley Scholarship: $3000 award to student going to the University of Georgia; interview required; deadline for application is March 31; see Guidance Office for application.

Therodore R. and Vivian M. Johnson Scholarship: for children of UPS employees or retirees who live in Florida; awards range from $1000 to $10,000; deadline April 15th; essay required; see Guidance Office for application.

Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program: awards from $50-$5,000; students ages 6-18 who demonstrative active volunteerism; see Guidance Office for application and nomination details.

Zonta Club's The Young Women in Public Affairs Award: $750 to young women ages 16-20; must show active commitment to volunteerism; dedication to advancing the status of women worldwide; see Guidance Office for application details.

The Florida Striders Track Club Scholarship: $1000 scholarship; must be a resident of North Florida for past two years; for seniors only; must be a runner or active in track and field events; essay and recommendation required; deadline March 11th; see counseling office for application and details.

Mayo Clinic's Leo F. Black Health Career Scholarships: $1000 scholarships for seniors planning to pursue a career in healthcare; award based on academic achievement, financial need, and expressed interest in healthcare field; deadline for application is March 17th; see counseling office for application and details.

Stetson University's J. Ollie Edmunds Distinguished Merit-Based Scholarship: full scholarship to Stetson including tuition, textbooks, fees, room and board, plus a $1500 summer internship stipend; two chosen per year; minimum 3.5 GPA; principal nomination along with application and interview process; see counselor for more information and to get nominated.

KFC Colonel's Scholar's Program: for college-bound seniors; $20,000 over four years; minimum GPA 2.75; demonstrate financial need; online application at www.kfcscholars.org.

New College of Florida: offers a broad range of scholarship for admitted students; the guarantee scholarships to ALL admitted freshmen who complete admission applications by Feb. 15.

University of Miami George W. Jenkins Scholarship: prize is full tuition, room, board, books, fees, and supplies--plus a $1500 stipend per semeter; must have weighted GPA of 3.75, strong participation in school or community activities, demonstrate financial need, and a history of overcoming significant adversity; see guidance counselor to be nominated and to get more information.

AXA Achievement Scholarship: community scholarship competition offers $2000 to seniors demonstrating outstanding acheivement in their activities at school and/or their community; national scholarship competition; prizes range from $10,000-$15,000; see Guidance office for applications and more information or go to www.axa-achievement.com for information and application.


Georgia Southern University Scholarships: you must gain admission to Georgia Southern University; merit-based; awards range from $1500-full tuition; see your guidance counselor or go to the Georgia Southern University site.


Sam Walton COMMUNITY Scholarship: for seniors; non-renewable $1000 award; minimum 2.5 GPA; go to www.walmartfoundation.org for more information.


Toyota Community Scholars: for seniors; high grades and significant community involvement; awards range from $10,000-$20,000 over four years; must be nominated by school; see Guidance if you are interested in being nominated.


FAPSC Scholarship Program: for seniors interested in going to career or technical schools; many Florida schools to choose from; awards range from $1000-full tuition; contact Guidance for application.


“What’s Bugging You?” Youth Achievement Award: from Middleton Lawn & Pest Control; for seniors; essay and visual arts contest; awards range from $500-$2000; see Guidance or go to myspace.com/middletonfrog.
