Community Service Council
Providence Community Service Council
Community Service at Providence: Since 1997, Providence students have demonstrated the love of Christ in many ways, including the following:
· Volunteering to work at athletic events, play productions, Sunday School, childcare, and administrative tasks in community, school and church settings;
· Volunteering to work in soup kitchens, shelters for the homeless and abused, children’s hospitals and school-based enrichment programs;
· Raising their own financial support to travel and serve in Christian missions in various parts of the world (Europe, South and Central America, Africa, Asia, and the United States);
· Assisting in provision of basic necessities of life to victims of Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters.
Who We Are
The Providence Community Service Council (PCSC) was founded in 2006, to provide information and guidance for students involved in planning and taking part in community service projects.
The PCSC consists of selected student leaders and a faculty sponsor. The PCSC meets as needed, so that PCSC student members can join other clubs and organizations that meet on Clubs meeting days during the school year.
Rationale
All Providence students must document the performance of at least 100 hours of community service before graduation.
Many Providence offices and departments have developed successful on-going community service projects. The PCSC aims to serve as a clearinghouse and referral source for students seeking community service hours.
PCSC functions:
Information source for all Providence students, Grades 9-12: the PCSC acts as a clearinghouse for information on existing community service projects within Providence School, in the City of Jacksonville and State of Florida, and around the world.
Liaison with Delta Tau Sigma, the Student Leadership Institute of Providence School: the PCSC works with Delta Tau Sigma to “organize and lead outreach projects within the greater Jacksonville community. Students will work in teams as a part of the fulfillment of the Leadership 101 Course to facilitate and attend at least 15 out-of-class hours of community service involvement with their designated team” (quoted from Delta Tau Sigma “Program Overview”).
