On May 7th, the Introduction to Engineering class, Mrs. McGill, and City Councilman Garrett Dennis visited the St. John’s Bar Pilot Association and Tote Maritime’s Isla Bella. Isla Bella is Tote’s first LNG and diesel powered container ship. The group began the field trip by watching a video of the christening of Tote Maritime’s Isla Bella. Captain McGill also presented diagrams of Isla Bella and shared information about the ship’s fuel system.

Next, we boarded the pilot boat and drove out to sea to watch Captain Seuter board the Isla Bella. After an easy boat ride out to sea, it was so exciting to see Captain Seuter reach for the ladder and climb two stories up to the deck above. Captain Seuter then took command of the Isla Bella and navigated the ship safely to her berth.

The Introduction to Engineering class would like to thank the St. John’s Bar Pilot Association, Captain McGill, Captain Winegeart, Captain Seuter, and boatman Ryan Rodeffer for sharing this opportunity. We love the hats too!
