Providence Girls Basketball Wins District Championship

The Lady Stallions varsity girls’ basketball team defeated San Jose Prep 65-45 in the District 2A District Final on February 6 in the Providence Barfield Gym. Providence School had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn’t miss a beat now that it’s playoff time. Everything went their way against the San Jose Prep Storm on Friday as they made off with a 65-45 win. The Lady Stallions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Providence School’s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kasey Davey led the charge by shooting 4-for-5 from downtown and dropping a double-double with 32 points and 12 boards. Those 32 points gave Davey a new career-high. Julianna Baskin was another key player, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Providence School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Providence School’s victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points over those games. As for San Jose Prep, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-9.

Providence will host the regional quarterfinal game against the Destin High School Sharks on Friday, February 13 at 7 p.m.
