Musical Theatre
Inspiring them...
to go farther than they ever dreamed.
Choir and Musical Theatre is a vital and lively part of daily life at Providence. Students have the opportunity to be involved in elementary, middle and finally, high school classes and productions. There are many opportunities for students to perform within the school, the community, and across the globe. Our students have been selected to perform at some of the most prestigious theaters in America including the Biltmore Estate, Carnegie Hall, and Walt Disney World. Our chorale has been invited to perform in London & Ireland and won the prestigious Gold Circle award while in London.
Musical Theatre
Under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Hudson, students who participate in musical theatre at Providence not only develop their dramatic skills as an actor, but they also learn the importance of team work and responsibility to others. Students also travel to New York each year for a Broadway Summit with informative classes and hands-on training with a Broadway cast. A student crew is also formed to support each production teaching leadership and the technical aspects of stage production, including costuming, stage makeup, lighting, set design and construction and stage management. The musical theatre department performs an broadway scale production that is open to the public every year in the spring.
Providence also has the distinct honor of having an International Thespian Honor Society which recognizes those exceptional students who excel in all areas of theatre production. Providence School won first place in the national Scenographics set competition for the sets used in their production of The Sound of Music. The Drama Department is led by one of our alumni teachers, Mrs. Jennifer Hudson. Mrs. Hudson was featured as “Maria Rainer” in the first production at Providence, The Sound of Music. She is thrilled to be back at Providence serving as the Director of Choral and Drama Activities. Several of our members are continuing their education in theatre and music.
