Director of Choral & Dramatic Activities
Providence Choir is comprised of three prestigious choirs, under the direction of Alumni soprano Mrs. Jennifer Hudson. The entry level choir is our 6th grade Exploratory Chorus, where young singers can learn the fundamentals of singing before advancing to the next higher level chorus. Beginning rhythms, instrumentation and patterns are learned in this entry level class to sight reading. The Middle School Chorus is comprised of 6th-8th grade male and female students and is an audition based choir. This choir had the unique opportunity of being invited to perform at the Jacksonville International Airport during the Christmas season, and has been invited back several times since that performance.
The highest level of choir at Providence is the high school Concert Choir, which is comprised of 9th-12th grade male and female students who are serious about music study, have a dedicated work ethic, and have a strong passion for singing. This group had the distinct honor this year of performing at Biltmore Estate’s Candlelight Evenings, Epcot’s Candlelight Processional and was highlighted recently as the guest choir for the National Tour of Video Games Live at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. This group has sung in many venues around Jacksonville and has received many accolades from within the music community and abroad: Maestro Emmanuel Fratianni recently commented that “Providence is the most well-rehearsed choir I have had the privilege of working with. Such talented young people…” They have also received another personal invitation to perform in New York City’s Carnegie Hall in 2014. In addition to these three choirs, Mrs. Hudson has formed a brand new small group within the Providence Choral Department known as The Providence Plaid. This audition based group is composed of high school male students interested in singing Barbershop harmony and performing for the community and the school.
“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all you lands. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God.” ~ Psalm 100
