Gigi Bistrow has been the Head of the Girls Basketball program at Providence School since the school’s inception. She has 41 years of Varsity experience with 33 years being a Head Coach. In her time at Providence, Coach Bistrow has had 20 winning seasons with 8 of them with 20+ wins. She has led two teams to the Final Four (2017 and 2023). Bistrow had 3 players continue their career at the collegiate level. She has had 6 players enter the 1000-point club and has several in the 500-point club at Providence. In 2017, she was awarded FABC 4A Coach of the Year. In 2017 and 2023, her team won the FHSAA 3A Academic Team Award. Prior to coaching at Providence, Gigi Bistrow coached at Father Ryan High School (Tennessee), St. Thomas Aquinas High School, University of North Florida (Graduate Assistant), Bishop Kenny High School (Assistant), and Episcopal School of Jacksonville.

Gigi Bistrow has been married to Jim Bistrow for 30 years and they have four children. Her oldest Ana Marie (2012 Graduate) is a Captain in the Army and is currently stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. She was a 4-year D1 college swimmer at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Jo (2014 Graduate) is her associate head coach in her 4th year and teaches Girls MS PE here at Providence. She was a 4-year D2 college basketball player and graduated from Rollins College. Belle (2015 Graduate) is currently a Head Coach for the company Booster. She was also a 4-year D2 college basketball player and graduated from the University of West Florida. Guy is the youngest (2020 Graduate) and is currently a senior at Saint Leo University. He is in his senior year and wo-year Captain on the Men’s Lacrosse team where he has started at attack position his entire career.

Gigi is blessed and grateful for all her time here at Providence and the support she gets from the administration, alumni, parents, and especially her family. She has always believed that coaching is more than just wins and losses. Coach Bistrow believes and preaches in building women of Christ and using basketball as a tool to teach those valuable lessons that will carry well beyond the basketball court.

Jim Martin has been the head coach of Providence varsity men’s basketball team for 24 years and this is his 29th year of coaching overall. In his time at Providence, Coach Martin has won three FHSAA state championships (2010,2013,2015) and has made seven final four appearances. Since 2010, five of his teams have been ranked in the Top 25 in the nation. Coach Martin has a career record of 593 wins and 125 losses. In addition, he has been honored with FABC Coach of the Year and Florida Dairy Farmer Coach of the Year awards twice each. He has had the opportunity to see 77 of his players succeed at the collegiate level. Among these players is Grayson Allen who was a McDonald’s All American in 2014, excelled his career at Duke University and is currently playing for the Phoenix Suns. He also coached 2010 McDonald’s All American, Patric Young, who had a great career at the University of Florida and played professionally overseas. Eleven of Coach Martin’s former players have continued their careers playing professionally overseas.

Coach Martin is a 1981 graduate of Jacksonville University and was a four year starter on their basketball team. Today, Coach Martin is the founder of Jacksonville Basketball Academy and Above Basketball Academy, the largest basketball academy in the southeast. These academies are just another platform in which Coach Martin coaches and teaches basketball to young players! Jim Martin is considered to be on the top high school basketball coaches in the state of Florida. He speaks at clinics all over the southeast and is extremely passionate about the game of basketball. He loves teaching kids of all ages the game of basketball and has a true understanding of the right way to play this wonderful sport.

Prior to his coaching career, Jim Martin was a commissioned officer in the United States Army rising to the rank of Captain. Jim has been married to his wife for 34 years and has three children. His oldest is Travis (2003 Graduate) and his wife Beth have three children of their own,William (11), Ellie (8), and Benjamin (6). Coach Martin’s middle son, Tyler (2012 Graduate) is engaged to marry Emily Thompson and his youngest daughter Angela (2015 Graduate) is engaged to marry Dillon McNulty (2012 Graduate). Coach Martin is so grateful for his family and the the wonderful memories he has made at Providence over the last 24 years.
