In the Florida High School Athletic Association Region 1-3A girls basketball final on Thursday night, Providence defeated San Jose Prep 62-59 to complete the season sweep and punch their ticket to the final four for the third time in a row. For the third time this year, San Jose Prep (16-10) pressed Providence to the finish, paced by the clutch shooting and penetration of junior Lamiyah Hogans and repeatedly clawing back deficits.
But Providence (26-2), which had earlier stopped the storm by margins of two and three points, survived again. Sophomore forward Julianna Baskin earned a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Janai Jordan secured the Stallions’ win from the line.
For Janai Jordan on Thursday night, the procession to the free-throw line during the fourth quarter never let up and neither did her shooting accuracy. Jordan, who scored a team-high 18 points, stated, “I knew I’ve done them in practice 100 times, and our team has been in this situation before.” “So I had confidence.”
