Spring Band Successes

springband

It has been a busy and rewarding Spring Semester for the Providence Band Program. As we reflect, we celebrate the many accomplishments of our young musicians and the ways God has blessed their efforts. Did you know the Providence Band Program serves more than 100 students in grades 5 through 12?

We began the spring semester with 12 students selected by audition or nomination to the Duval Nassau Honor Bands. These students rehearsed at Atlantic Coast High School from January 29–31 and performed in a sold-out concert on January 31. Highlights included a beautiful clarinet solo by Providence senior Gavin Cox.

On March 6, our 5th Grade Band honored grandparents and grandpals with a performance of Admiration March. Later that day, our Concert Band (Intermediate Band), made up primarily of 6th and 7th grade students, performed at the FBA District 17 Middle School Concert MPA, earning a Straight Superior rating. This marks the second overall Superior for the ensemble and the first Straight Superior rating in its history.

The Middle School Honor Band, composed primarily of 8th grade and older students, also performed at the FBA District 17 High School Concert MPA, earning an overall rating of Excellent, including a Superior from stage judge Dr. Devan Moore and a Superior in sight-reading from Dr. Benny Bolden Jr.

During Spring Break on March 17, Robby Rivera and Stella Vizzini performed at the FBA State Solo and Ensemble MPA at Matanzas High School, with both students earning Superior ratings.

Most recently, 11 additional students performed at the FBA District Solo and Ensemble event at First Coast High School. Of those performances, six earned Excellent ratings and five earned Superior ratings.

To say this season of participation and performance has been successful would be an understatement. We are grateful for how God has worked through our students and program.
