5th Grade Having a BLAST with Rockets!

In Mrs. Klicker’s science classes, students took learning to new heights—designing, building, and launching their very own Estes model rockets as part of their science unit. The excitement was sky-high as classmates counted down each launch and watched rockets soar into the air!

Using altimeters, students tracked real flight data and were amazed by just how high and fast their rockets traveled.

To cap off the experience, they took their learning even further with a visit to the Kennedy Space Center!

A huge thank you to the SAF–Stallion Annual Fund for providing each student with their own rocket, and to the Crumpler Family for sharing their time and expertise with our young rocket scientists.

Astronaut Visit

Providence’s resident rocket scientist, Jacob Reichhardt, Class of 2016! Jacob spent his day speaking to Mrs. Klicker’s 5th grade science classes. They have been studying, building & launching rockets and will conclude their unit with a visit to Kennedy Space Center, where Jacob works! Jacob also stopped in to our Robotics & Engineering Lab to see Mr. Holcomb and fellow engineer mind, @brightonzink.

Jacob works as an Aerospace Engineer with NASA’s Launch Services Program (LSP). Specifically, he works on the Dynamic Environments Team, which makes sure that the rocket doesn’t shake itself apart during launch.

When Jacob comes to campus, everyone is excited to meet a real-life rocket scientist! For the first time this year, they had him signing autographs. We are very proud of Jacob & look forward to more years of him teaching our students how fun engineering can be! 🚀
