All Providence high school students are required to complete 25 hours of community service per year (100 hours total). Students should submit community service forms to the Academic Registrar, Leah Wilkes, by the end of each school year. Any community service hours completed during the summer should be applied to the year that the student will be entering in the fall. 75 hours of community service must be completed and submitted to the Registrar’s Office by the last day of school of junior year. *The remaining 25 hours must be completed by the end of the first semester (Christmas break) of the senior year.
*Students who do not complete and submit 75 community service hours by the deadline will lose senior privileges (i.e. senior lunches, dress down days, etc.) during their senior year.
“Community” includes school, church, neighborhood, city, state, or world community. A guiding question to ask in order to understand the “spirit” of the community service requirement is, “Is this person (or organization) in real need of assistance?” Since it is assumed that service to other family members is a normal part of daily life, such service will not count towards the requirement. The service requirement provides the student with an opportunity to explore new dimensions of what it means to be a person of service to others.
