Dear School Families:

With the new school year fast approaching, we want to advise you of a change in our Administration. Our Head of School, Mr. Don Barfield has decided to retire. Although we knew retirement was approaching for Mr. Barfield since he returned to Providence two years ago, the timing of this decision is predicated upon recent circumstances relative to his wife Sandra’s health. We are truly saddened by this, but support Mr. Barfield and his wife in their decision.

Mr. Barfield has been vital part of the success of Providence since its inception in 1997. He has been an educator for 43 years, and has served as Head of School at Providence for a total of 18 years. Working along-side New Life Christian Fellowship and our board of directors, Mr. Barfield has led the staff and faculty to become the strong team that has made Providence boldly Christian and unquestionably academic. Truly, the strength of Providence is due to the remarkable people – those past and present that God has used to impact the students that have matriculated through its doors. However, we believe that Mr. Barfield has been a pillar of strength throughout his leadership and is worthy of our commendation.

It is remarkable what God has accomplished these past 21 years and to see the impact Providence School has had in the greater Jacksonville community, which we aspire to continue seamlessly as we transition with a new Head of School. We have not had to search far, and are pleased to announce that effective August 1, 2018, Dr. Tim Anderson, who has been our High School Principal since 2014, will become the new Head of School.

We are also pleased to announce that Michael Gray, who has been a teacher at Providence since 2010, and head of the science department for two years, will become the new High School Principal. Michael has a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision and is a Providence graduate. He has also served as an Administration Intern in the upper school for two years, and comes highly recommended by Mr. Barfield and Dr. Anderson.

Thank you for your continued support as we proceed with this transition in welcoming Dr. Anderson as Head of School, and Michael Gray as High School Principal. We believe the best years are yet to come.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors
Providence School
